North Africa

Dear Mom and family,
Just back off a little trip that has picked me up considerable, one a little different from the ordinary. In one place I slept in a bed – one with beautiful slick white sheets and silken covered pillows, – that you actually had to sit up in, to see out, it was so soft! But getting back to one’s stomping ground is as much the pleasure as the trip itself. My bed may be a little hard, but over here it is my everything – companion, lounge, bedroom, kitchen (?), Wardrobe, easy chair, study and reading outfit all combined and a feller sort of gets attached to something so versatile. Right now I wouldn’t trade mine for all the “sacks” in Africa.
Yeah! I also got myself a haircut – I catch myself now walking on my tiptoes because I feel so light. Also I had thought that, that G.I. soap had drawn my flight caps up so they wouldn’t fit but now they fit perfectly.
(The cause for the pause in writing was at St. Fickes tent was a fire and had to go put it out) there is always something going on in this man’s army to break the monotony, durn it.
I’m gonna write you a V-mail today so let me know which gets there first.
Haven’t heard from Jim, in quite a while. Hope he is okay also I have lost track of his address. Hope if he goes overseas at all, that he comes to this theater. And Margaret – here she is about to move out to California.
Tell all the folks hello and write real soon and often.
Love,
Roger
PS. Dear Betsy Skut and Cynthia
Can’t guess what I saw the other day – a little baby camel – complete with a little hump and everything! I tried to get him to send to you but he didn’t want to leave his mama. He was as cute as the dickens.
Love,
Uncle Roger
